1st June, 2026
Hello to all Sand Dune Enthusiasts!
The Climate Action Regional Office are launching their annual Protect Our Dunes Campaign for 2026. This campaign seeks to inspire visitors and locals across all coastal counties in Ireland to protect our beautiful and dynamic dunes systems, the wildlife that they support, and the vital role that they play in protecting our coastal communities.
We would like to invite everyone to participate in this year’s campaign, whether you’re a state or semi-state organisation, a private company, a community group, or a wonderful person interested in protecting these unique ecosystems. With your help, we can raise awareness about the importance and fragility of our coastal sand dunes.
Please share the Protect Our Dunes campaign through your Communications Team, or on social channels. We recommend posting two social media messages per month from June to September to maximise this year’s impact and ensure that the message reaches as many people as possible. However, if this isn’t feasible please do prioritise World Sand Dune Day, on the 27th June!
The aim of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness of the biodiversity that our dunes support, and the unintentional negative impacts that people can have on our sand dunes through outdoor recreation, building, maintenance of facilities, and access pathways to our beaches.
You can find a diverse range of pre-prepared social media assets for easy sharing at the following link: Resources Hub – Beaches & Dunes.
Resources are available in both English and as Gaeilge.
